The mission of the Looking Glass Regional Fire Authority is to protect the life and property of all within our service area by providing prevention, education, and rapid effective response to all fire and emergency situations.
The Looking Glass Regional Fire Authority was established in the fall of 2001. The Authority was formed as a cooperative agreement between Eagle Township and Watertown Charter Township to provide fire and emergency services. The townships appointed two members from their respective township boards. The appointed members then selected a fifth and sixth at-large member to make up the Looking Glass Regional Fire Authority Board. The Authority Board appointed committee members from the public to the Personnel Committee, Building Committee, and Equipment Committee. From the hard work and dedication of these citizen committees, the requirements and needs of the fire department were established. The responsibilities of the original board included building a station, purchasing equipment, and staffing the department.
The Looking Glass Fire Department opened its doors for service to the community on October 21, 2003, at 12:01 a.m.
On March 1st, 2012, the Looking Glass Regional Fire Authority signed a Shared Service Agreement with Delta Charter Township. This Agreement was the first for a fire department regionalization for Mid-Michigan. The Delta Township Fire Department would staff the Looking Glass station 24/7 with two personnel and an ambulance along with the Looking Glass equipment and vehicles.
The two personnel would consist of one full-time Paramedic/Firefighter and one part-time Paramedic or EMT/Firefighter. The Looking Glass full-time and part-time staff would transfer to Delta Twp. Fire.
